Next to the coastal strip in southern Angola, the Namib Desert, the oldest in the world, is one of the country's tourism potentials, due to the fauna and flora of its surroundings or the secular traditions of the people who still depend on it.
In a simple way, the Namibe desert, in Angolan territory, is divided into an area of dunes and mobile sands, with about 200 thousand hectares, without water and any type of conditions for raising cattle or agriculture. It is also here that cemeteries are easily found amid the dunes or buildings from colonial times abandoned and covered by sand.
Located 200 kilometers south of the city of Namibe, between the Atlantic Ocean, where it reaches the sea, and the Cunene and Curoca rivers, the Iona National Park covers an area of 15,150 square kilometers and is the center of the desert. There you can easily spot herds of fan goats, ostrich zebras, or the orix, the symbol of the park.
Despite being a desert, the flora is a highlight with its presence, unique in the world (extends to the desert in Namibia), in its surroundings, of the welwitschia mirabilis, an endemic plant.
